Manuela Sanchez y Navarro de St. Denis



Manuela Sanchez y Navarro was the step-granddaughter of Diego Ramon, founder of San Juan Bautista del Rio Grande and later governor of Monclova area of Mexico. She married Louis Juchereau de St. Denis and become a key person at the post of Natchitoches. Being Spanish and married to a Frenchman she was also a key to the relations between the Spanish of Tejas (Texas) and the French of Louisiana. More to follow on her at a later date as she is important to both Texas and Louisiana history and also her Catholic Faith played a key role in the development of the Church at Natchitoches and Los Adays the first colonial capital of Tejas.
